Dr. Lorena Surber
Lorena M. Surber, D.D.S. graduated summa cum laude from West Virginia University in 1972 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Dental Hygiene. She practiced as a Dental Hygienist for 14 years before going to dental school. In 1990, Dr. Surber graduated summa cum laude from West Virginia University School of Dentistry. She then completed a General Practice Residency at Charleston Area Medical Center.
Dr. Surber tells us, “I was inspired to become a dental hygienist by my aunt, a dental hygienist. She often talked to me about dental hygiene which motivated me to become a hygienist. I later decided to go to dental school because I enjoy caring for my patients and have truly found my niche as a dentist. The joy I see on my patients’ faces when they complete their cosmetic dental plans never ceases to inspire me.”
Today, Dr. Surber combines new technologies with gentle dental care to help her patients achieve proper dental health. Dr. Surber explains, “A beautiful smile begins on the inside. That’s why I get to know my patient as a person before I treat them. I listen to their fears, concerns, and expectations. Then I design a smile-enhancement plan just for them. By catering to individual needs, I can truly give my patients a reason to smile.”
Dr. Surber is proud of her friendly and dedicated staff whose goal is to provide a comfortable, caring dental experience for patients. Patient comfort is a key aspect of Dr. Surber’s dental practice. That means taking her patients’ fears seriously and providing them with many comforts while being treated.
Besides being concerned with her patients’ dental health, Dr. Surber also cares about their general health and well being. She also treats patients with sleep apnea and TMJ disorders. This has enabled them to have a better quality of life.
Her daughter, Claire, is a veterinarian living in Georgia with her son, Joe. Mac is Dr. Surber’s oldest son. He graduated from West Point. After serving in the Army, he is now living in Boston with his wife, Beth, and children, Kenny, Evie, and Eleanor. Jonathan is Dr. Surber’s youngest son. After graduating from the College of Charleston in Charleston, South Carolina, he is now working near Los Angeles as a fireman.
Among her affiliations, Dr. Surber is a member of the American Dental Association, the American College of Dentists, the Academy of General Dentistry, the Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, the American Academy of Facial Esthetics, the West Virginia Dental Association, the Academy of Sleep Medicine, and the Kanawha Valley Dental Society.
She also served as previous president of the Board of Governors of the West Virginia University School of Dentistry Alumni Association and previous president of the Kanawha Valley Dental Society. She is presently a Spear faculty club member at the Scottsdale Center for Dentistry.
