Teeth Cleaning

We recommend our patients receive routine cleanings at least every six months to ensure that any developing issues are diagnosed and treated as soon as possible. We will remove plaque and tartar from the teeth, revealing a polished smile. During the cleaning, we also examine the mouth for cavities, gum disease, and oral cancer. To aid us in the examination, we may take digital x-rays during your cleaning as well.

Periodontal Disease

Periodontal disease affects the gums, causing bleeding, swelling, and inflammation. When left untreated, it can lead to tooth loss and can contribute to other health issues such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and more. Treatment depends on the disease’s progression. Mild periodontal disease, or gingivitis, can be treated with regular six-month cleanings. More advanced stages may require more frequent cleanings, as well as scaling and root planing treatment to remove bacteria from beneath the gum line. If the case is severe, we may refer you to a specialist.

Digital X-Rays

As compared to traditional x-rays, digital x-rays expose patients to 80 to 90 percent less radiation. Plus, images are produced instantaneously, rather than taking time to develop. Digital x-rays allow us to to diagnose issues in the smile not visible during a visual exam, such as impacted teeth and cavities between teeth.

Nitrous Oxide

For patients who are very nervous before their dental procedure, we offer nitrous oxide, also known as “laughing gas.” This is a safe treatment that helps patients relax while remaining conscious and aware. Nitrous oxide helps patients have a more comfortable experience while allowing us to effectively perform the treatments the patient needs.

Sealants

Children’s back molars have grooved chewing surfaces that are difficult to effectively clean with a toothbrush. Therefore, these teeth are especially susceptible to decay. Sealants are plastic coatings we place over these teeth to seal out food and bacteria, helping protect them from cavities.

Sleep Apnea

Sleep apnea is a condition that causes a patient to stop breathing for short periods of time during sleep, resulting in too little oxygen and too much carbon dioxide in the bloodstream. This is a dangerous condition that can result in overall health issues and can be deadly if left untreated. If you suspect you may suffer from sleep apnea, Dr. Surber may be able to help. She can refer you to a sleep doctor for a diagnosis. Then, she can provide you with an oral device, called a snore guard, to wear at night that opens up the airways by repositioning the tongue and jaw.

TMJ Therapy

TMJ stands for temporomandibular joints, which are the joints that connect the jaw to the skull. TMJ dysfunction (TMD) results in pain, popping, or clicking when moving the jaw, as well as facial pain, headaches, and earaches. It can be caused by stress, a misaligned bite, injury, or other factors. Dr. Surber has helped many patients experiencing TMJ troubles by providing non-surgical therapies that help improve the function of the jaw and reduce pain symptoms.

Laser Dentistry

We are proud to use laser technology to provide more precise and comfortable treatments for our patients. Lasers help to decrease bleeding, pain, and swelling as compared to traditional dentistry using drills. They can be used for a variety of procedures, including:
● Activation of whitening gels
● Reduction of inflammation associated with TMD
● Removal of soft tissue
● Certain dental fillings
● Crown lengthening
● Cavity detection
● Reduction in tooth sensitivity
● Reshaping of the gums

Cosmetic & Restorative Dentistry

Fillings

Fillings are used to restore teeth that have had a small cavity removed or that have a small chip or fracture. We offer tooth-colored fillings that blend in seamlessly with your smile.

Crowns & Bridges

When a tooth has been seriously broken or has had a root canal, a crown is necessary. A crown is a cap that is custom-created and placed over the affected tooth to restore its strength, function and appearance. We offer tooth-colored crowns that are designed to be virtually invisible in your smile.

A bridge is a tooth-replacement option that is permanently cemented to the adjacent teeth to help prevent the potential consequences of leaving a gap in the smile, such as shifting of the teeth and difficulty chewing and speaking properly. Dr. Surber can work with you to determine if a bridge is the best choice for you.

Dentures

Dentures are a removable tooth-replacement option. We offer complete dentures, designed for those who have no remaining teeth, as well as partial dentures, for patients with a few teeth remaining. Dentures help restore function and aesthetic appearance to your smile, and they are custom-designed to fit comfortably and securely in your smile. They help improve your ability to chew and speak and can prevent facial sagging that results from missing teeth.

Veneers

When you are seeking a smile transformation, veneers can help. Veneers are thin, durable porcelain or ceramic shells that are bonded onto the front of your existing teeth. They are created specifically for you to help you reach your goals for your smile. They can be used to disguise discoloration, chips, gaps, misalignment, and other imperfections.

Dental Implants

If you have missing teeth and are looking for a permanent, secure tooth replacement, dental implants might be right for you. The implant is a titanium post that is surgically inserted into the gums, fuses with the jawbone, and serves as the “root” of the new tooth. Then, the implant is restored with a crown so it can look like and function as a real tooth. Implants can be used to replace just one tooth or to secure dentures in place. A patient must have sufficient jawbone to be a candidate for dental implants.

Teeth Whitening

Sometimes, teeth can become discolored due to consumption of dark beverages such as tea, wine, coffee, or colas, as well as from certain medications, aging, smoking, and other factors. Brushing and flossing regularly isn’t enough to restore the smile’s whiteness. That’s why we offer Zoom! Whitening, an effective treatment that can whiten the smile by several shades. If you’re interested in teeth whitening, we can discuss your options with you!
